Introduction
The Blessing rite before entering the community
Before entering the community, a blessing ceremony is held to inform our ancestral spirits about our visitors, seeking their blessings for a safe journey.
Sapari Woodcarving Studio
Experience the intricate wood carvings that depict the Paiwan tribal hierarchy, familial heritage, patterns, and legendary stories.
Tuban Catholic Church
The first church in Taitung that merges Paiwan cultural symbols with Western beliefs. The statues of Jesus, the altar, and the lectern are Paiwan totem wood carvings. Notably, the trinity wood carving, recognized by the Vatican, has its pattern turned into postcards. Most wood carvings in the church are creations of Sapari artisans.
Lja Ladan - Chen Chieftain's Residence
In the Tuban tribe, there are three chieftain residences: Patjaljinuk, Ladan, and Saljingusan. Visitors will explore the residence of Chieftain Ladan. Adjacent to the chieftain's residence is the Ancestral House. This place is solemn and sacred, dedicated to the worship of the deceased ancestors of the Paiwan tribe. Etiquette dictates no sneezing, passing gas, entering during menstruation, or pregnancy inside the Ancestral House.
Pageljing Eco-friendly Zone
Named after "pageljing," which means "support" or "help" in Paiwanese, this area focuses on nature and eco-friendly ecology. Here, numerous Paiwan staple plants are cultivated. Visitors can freely pick their preferred leafy vegetables and cook traditional mountain rice together. Additional offerings include ginger, salted fish, scallion-grilled meat, mountain-produced (wild boar) pizza, and snail pizza.
