Introduction
Introduction to Amis Pottery
Learn about the origins, crafting techniques, and unique aspects of Amis pottery. Gain insights into the traditional methods used in crafting Amis pottery.
Amis Pottery Experience
Participants will create a small Amis-style pot known for its handles on both sides, usable for holding or supporting tree branches. The experience will be guided step-by-step, and assistance will be available as needed.
Pounding and Pinching for Shaping
Start by pounding the clay into a ball shape. Insert your thumb in the center and rotate the clay while pinching to form the pot's body. As it's hand-shaped throughout, each person's pot will differ in height and diameter. Pay attention to the clay's moisture during this process to prevent cracking.
Creating and Installing Handles
Shape the handle using clay strips, determining its length as desired. Carve marks with a bamboo stick at the handle's joint with the pot, applying clay slip to ensure a secure fit.
Choosing Glaze Colors and Finalizing
Multiple glaze colors are available to choose from. You can engrave your name or any pattern on the bottom of the pot. The finished pot needs to dry before firing, and the timing might vary due to temperature and humidity. It generally takes around 1-3 months to receive the final product.
