Introduction
Customs and Culture of Green Island Peanut Candy and Production Method
Green Island Peanut Candy is diamond-shaped, delightfully crispy, and sweet without being sticky. The paired peanuts symbolize the harmonious union of a loving couple.
In the traditional marriage customs of Green Island, the bride distributes peanut candy to family and friends on her wedding day, bringing joy and good fortune.
Hand-Roasted Peanuts with Sea Sand
After shelling the peanuts, the kernels are roasted with sea sand until they turn golden and release the irresistible aroma of peanuts. The highly skilled traditional method of "hand-roasting with sea sand" requires precise control of heat and timing. The peanuts are continuously stirred and mixed to ensure even heating until the experienced master determines their perfect readiness.
DIY Peanut Candy
The roasted peanuts are gently rubbed and hand-peeled twice. They are then shaken in a bamboo sieve, allowing the reddish-brown peanut skins to separate and reveal the golden, crispy, and plump peanut kernels. The boiled malt syrup is poured over the peanuts to form peanut candy. While still hot, the peanut candy is rolled and shaped, then cut into diamond shapes.
